dirhp guide

Set up dirhp, connect your assistant, and fix common problems.

Getting started

What dirhp is

dirhp organizes your Rhino design so the AI assistant you already use knows what the objects in your model are, not only their shapes.

It has two parts. Install both:

  • The Rhino plugin, which runs inside Rhino and reads your model on your computer.
  • The agent plugin, which you add to your AI assistant so it can talk to dirhp.

What you need

  • Rhino 8 on Windows.
  • An AI assistant that supports MCP. Claude Desktop and Claude Code are the tested ones today. The ChatGPT desktop app and the Codex CLI are also supported.
  • An authentication token from the dirhp team. See Authentication tokens.

An account is created the first time you connect.

Install the Rhino plugin

  1. Download dirhp.yak.
  2. Open Rhino and drag the .yak file into the Rhino window.
  3. Restart Rhino, then run the dirhp_Panel command to check it is installed.

Install the agent plugin

Every assistant installs dirhp from the same marketplace repository:

https://github.com/JovinLim/dirhp-plugins

Claude Desktop and claude.ai (web)

  1. Open Claude Desktop or go to claude.ai, then click Customize in the sidebar.
  2. Open the Plugins tab.
  3. Click the + button and choose Add marketplace.
  4. Select Add from a repository, paste the repository URL and confirm.
  5. dirhp now appears in the plugins list. Click Add.
  6. Open the dirhp plugin and go to its Connectors tab.
  7. Click Connect and follow the prompts to finish.
  8. Your browser opens a new tab asking for an authentication token. Paste your token and complete the sign-in. No token yet?
  9. Start a new chat. dirhp is ready to use straight away.

Claude Code

  1. Add the dirhp marketplace in your terminal.claude plugin marketplace add JovinLim/dirhp-plugins
  2. Install the dirhp plugin.claude plugin install dirhp@dirhp-marketplace
  3. Start Claude Code with claude and run /mcp.
  4. Select dirhp from the server list and choose Authenticate.
  5. Your browser opens a new tab asking for an authentication token. Paste your token and complete the sign-in. No token yet?
  6. Start a new session. dirhp is ready to use straight away.

ChatGPT desktop app (ChatGPT and Codex)

  1. Open the ChatGPT desktop app (or Codex) and go to Plugins.
  2. Click Add a marketplace.
  3. Paste the repository URL and confirm.
  4. Switch to the Personal tab.
  5. Find dirhp in the list and click Install.

Codex CLI

  1. Add the dirhp marketplace in your terminal.codex plugin marketplace add JovinLim/dirhp-plugins
  2. Install the dirhp plugin.codex plugin add dirhp@dirhp-marketplace
  3. Sign dirhp in to its connector.codex mcp login dirhp
  4. If the browser does not open on its own, copy the link Codex prints into your browser.
  5. Your browser opens a new tab asking for an authentication token. Paste your token and complete the sign-in. No token yet?
  6. Start a new session. dirhp is ready to use straight away.

Start a new session or thread after you install. Existing chats do not load new plugins.

Ask your first question

Open your model in Rhino, then start a new chat in your assistant. Try:

  • “What is in this model?”
  • “Tint the objects by what they are.”

The model does not need any preparation. dirhp reads your existing file, and your layers and object names stay as they are. You describe what things are as you go.

Connecting

Authentication tokens

During early access, the dirhp team sends you a token. You paste it when your assistant or Rhino asks you to sign in. Contact us if you do not have one.

Sign in to Rhino

If Rhino says it is not linked to a dirhp account:

  1. Run dirhp_Panel to open the dirhp panel.
  2. Click Login.
  3. Paste your dirhp_ account token if it asks for one.

You do this once on each computer. Reconnecting your assistant does not fix this message.

The assistant does not show dirhp

  • Start a new session or thread. Existing chats do not load new plugins.
  • In Claude Code, run /mcp, select dirhp and choose Authenticate.
  • In the Codex CLI, run codex mcp login dirhp.
  • In Claude Desktop, open the dirhp plugin, go to Connectors and click Connect.

The dirhp-architecture add-on

dirhp-architecture is an optional add-on for architecture work. It needs the base dirhp plugin for its connection, so install dirhp first. Install the add-on from the same marketplace, the same way.

Working with your model

Describe what objects are

dirhp has no fixed set of object types and no BIM schema to follow. Describe things in the words your practice already uses, such as shopfront, party wall or canopy.

One object can hold more than one meaning at the same time. A seat that is also a stair does not have to become one or the other. You do not declare anything before you draw: describe things when you know what they are.

Edits, undo and saved states

Changes made through your assistant are ordinary Rhino edits. They show in the viewport and you can undo them like any other edit.

Saved states let you return the design to an earlier version. Ask your assistant to save the current state before a large change.

Grasshopper

dirhp sees baked geometry. When results are in the Rhino document, you can name, find and track them like anything else. dirhp cannot see live Grasshopper preview.

How dirhp should work with Grasshopper is still open. If you work this way, tell us what you need.

What dirhp does not do yet

dirhp does not produce drawings or schedules today. It is about what is in the model and what it means.

Troubleshooting

“Not connected” or “no session”

Use this when dirhp worked before and now fails.

  1. Make sure Rhino is open with your file open.
  2. Ask your assistant to reconnect to dirhp. If more than one file is open, tell it which file to use.
  3. If the dirhp panel in Rhino shows Login, sign in again. See Sign in to Rhino.
  4. If it still fails after you reconnect, stop and contact us with the exact error text.

“Rhino rejected” the command

Rhino did not accept the command, for example because the geometry was not valid for that operation. Reconnecting does not help. Read the error, change the request, and try again.

Account and data

Where your data goes

  • Your Rhino file stays on your computer. dirhp reads it there. The .3dm is not uploaded.
  • The design graph is processed on our servers: the names you give things, how they relate, your version history, recipes and policies, and the geometry-derived data needed to answer questions about the model.
  • Your AI assistant runs on your own account with your own provider. dirhp does not see your conversations.

Nothing from your projects is used to train any model. Read the full data and privacy page.

Pricing

dirhp is free during early access. Pricing is not decided. You will hear about any pricing change from us first.
